Goal

At Salam LADC, our mission to empower and create lasting solidarity between Lebanese and Syrian communities is at the heart of everything we do. Along with education, social stability and basic assistance, we also offer livelihood projects in the form of vocational training, financial support for microbusiness and cash-for-work programmes. These projects aim to reduce vulnerability and provide our beneficiaries with the tools to develop or build a set of specific skills to enhance self-sufficiency.

Empowering Women with Sewing Machines

Sewing machines are crucial for the sustainability of two of our livelihood projects. Our sewing training teaches practical skills to provide both long-term employment opportunities and increased independence for Lebanese and Syrian women, providing them with the tools and skills to empower them for a better future. Reserved as a female-only space, this training is also a safe environment for women to feel physically and emotionally secure, share concerns and discuss sensitive topics such as gender-based violence.

In partnership with WingWoman Lebanon, our Sustainable Dignity project provides women with cash for producing reusable menstrual pads with sewing machines that are then distributed to the local community. With an estimated 80% of the population living in poverty, access to affordable, hygienic menstrual products is an ongoing struggle for many women and girls. Additionally, because of cultural taboos, women are often unable to discuss their menstrual health needs, and therefore are left to suffer in silence. This project supports women through the production and distribution of safe, cost-effective and reusable pads, whilst also empowering them to have a better understanding of their bodies, eliminating misconceptions surrounding menstruation through awareness sessions.

How can you help?

To ensure the sustainability of these projects, Salam LADC requires four new sewing machines. Not only will this allow us to continue improving our training programmes and the quality of reusable pads, but also to widen the scope of these projects to enable extra beneficiaries to be trained, increasing self-sufficiency and opportunities for income.

Each sewing machine costs $295. Any donation is appreciated. If you wish to donate monthly, you are contributing to the empowerment of vulnerable women in future project cycles.

Thank you for your support. ❤🕊
