Goal
I wish I could stop the war in the Ukraine, but I can't, only the government leaders can do that. But I am inspired by this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." Strength to Love, 1963. https://www.nps.gov/mlkm/learn/quotations.htm
This quote inspired me to do what I can for the people of Ukraine. I am starting a campaign to raise $500 for Maya's Hope, mayashope.org . This group helps children with special needs that are left stranded in the Ukraine. I saw some TV coverage of these disabled children on the Today Show and it just made me cry. There was a little boy crying "mama, mama". Here is a link to this video, https://www.today.com/parents/parents/help-disabled-ukrainian-children-war-rcna33231.
This cause is near and dear to my heart because the last 20 years of my nursing career I specialized in pregnancies with anomalies and birth defects. It is so difficult to care for a child with a birth defect, even with all the resources and advantages we have in the US. But can you imagine caring for a disabled child in a war-torn country, then having to flee for your life? This is a choice no parent should have to make. It is yet again another tragedy this horrible war has caused. My family wants to support Ukraine by starting a campaign for a cause we believe in and a legit organization. I found Maya's Hope in an article by the Today Show that listed legit charities. (Everyone knows that I'm a big fan of the Today Show). The link to entire list is here, https://www.today.com/news/news/5-verified-charities-working-help-ukrainians-invasion-rcna17590.
