Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance and are unable to afford necessities to improve their quality of life.
Samantha is a 10-month-old baby girl from the Philippines. She has aqueductal stenosis (aqueductal stenosis is a narrowing which blocks the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain). She has now been diagnosed with hydrocephalus. The pressure in her head is building.
Her father works as a vendor in a large market in Manila. Their income is around US$60 a month. The family were unable to afford their rent for their rural home so they are currently living at the market.
With your help, we funded surgery for Samantha. Her neurosurgeon performed an endoscopic third ventriculostomy (endoscopic third ventriculostomy is a surgical procedure that creates a bypass for the cerebrospinal fluid in the head that eliminates the need for a shunt).
Unfortunately, a few days after surgery cerebrospinal fluid started leaking from Samantha's incision site.
She urgently needs a second surgery and this time she will need a shunt inserted.
There is no way her family can afford this surgery alone and are begging for help for their daughter. Can you help us raise the funds needed for Samantha's second surgery?
