EMERGENCY APPEAL - TRANQUILITY EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

As of this writing, over 40,000 Turks and Syrians have been killed by multiple rounds of devastating earthquakes in February 2023. To alleviate their suffering, I am endeavoring to join a relief convoy in Turkey to do emergency humanitarian work. My tickets are booked to arrive in Istanbul on March 10th, after which I will head to Hatay, near the Turkish/Syrian border, to do relief work for Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims. I'm writing to seek your support for donations as I make this journey. 

As many of you know, I have spent the past decade working intimately on the Syrian Revolution and refugee crisis, both as an academic scholar and practitioner. With each passing year of my work, I came to realize that Syrians are some of the kindest and most hospitable people in the world. Even as they endure the dual hardships of war and forced displacement, the Syrian people remain united in their charitability and commitment to spiritual excellence (ihsan). Seeing people who have already endured so much suffering be further devastated by these earthquakes, then, proved especially hearbreaking. 

In the course of my work, I partnered with civil society organizations founded and led by Syrian refugee scholars. In 2015 I personally participated in a relief convoy at the Syrian/Turkish border, delivering aid to Syrian refugees in the Hatay area. This same organization is now leading delegations to offer humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Please email us at [email protected] if you're interested in on-site volunteering and we will get you information as it becomes available.  In the meantime, we cannot show up empty-handed, please create a fundraising page and start sharing with your entire network.  

Alhamdulillah we have found our ground team in Turkey all safe!  But their work as well as ours now begins.  

We are mobilizing an initial team to the grounds to assess the situation in how we can get the proper aid to those that need it.  

We need to continue to raise funds to provide funds for:

- Emergency Aid Kits

- Food Items

- Blankets

- Temporary Shelter

- Clothing

- Hygiene Products

- Baby Items and Formula

We urgently appeal to your kindness and generosity to help us provide this aid and support to these earthquake victims. Any amount will make a huge difference in the lives of these people who have lost everything.
