WE have all done it...Walked past an injured animal, not knowing HOW TO help.
We’ve seen images of abandoned dogs and cats in the forest, or seen desperate people posting about the street animals they have found.
The economic crisis in Turkey is making the situation for the stray animals even worse than before.
We cannot put the responsibility on just a few people who, as much as they want to help all animals, still can't do this on their own and can't reach out to every situation in every area.
This is a collective problem that we need to look beyond the sadness and take ACTION.
We have so many examples of animals that have been found helpless on the street. Heartlessly left to die.
There are also beautiful rescue stories that prove that the animals that we walk by could have a chance at a decent life.
With winter on the way, Tails of Istanbul wish to create an EMERGENCY FUND to help animals in urgent need.
A cat named Blade is one of them.
He was found in the middle of a pedestrian street by the Bosphorus in istanbul. He was only skin and bones and did not move. The number of people who just walked by is heartbreaking.
Fishermen said, “Don't touch he's sick.”
Therese, the founder of Tails of Istanbul, took him to a nearby vet, who gave him serum and said Blade probably had the cat disease FIP.
He stayed for 3 days with the vet before Therese took him home.He was not eating and she could feel something was wrong.
Another veterinary said Blade had kidney problems and chances of survival were not so good.
He got treatment and stayed for a few days at the clinic.
At home again he still did not look good.
On a third vet visit, he got an x-ray and they found three fishing hooks and lines and dirt inside his stomach. He had an emergency operation and luckily survived!
Months of treatment and care later he was ok.
Blade now lives in Germany with a wonderful person and other cat friends. The total treatment cost Therese approximately 1000 TL. The night Therese took Blade home it was hailing and raining so heavily that the cat would have surely died.
Blade is our example of never walking past an animal that needs us.
We are setting up this Emergency Fund to help in situations just like this one. Having a good heart will get animals a chance to veterinary care. But it still costs money to pay the veterinary bills and buy food.
PLEASE consider helping us to help sick and abandoned animals like Blade who are left to die on the city streets.
Make your donation today and the money will be distributed to veterinary clinics with animals in our care. Also be used to buy cat and dog food and sent to our trusted rescue team on the ground in Istanbul.
