After gender counselling & thorough assessments with an endocrinologist and psychiatrist specializing in Pediatric transgender health , my child started on hormone blockers at age 13, began Testosterone at 15, and was so adamant about their need for top surgery that our family and community pulled out all the stops to access out of province/out of pocket care for them when it became clear that care would not be accessible in Alberta. My child is an adult now, and tells me they don’t think they’d be alive had they not received care when they did. They are excelling academically and socially in second year university, beyond grateful to have completed their transition before having to tackle the challenges of living away from home. The thought that our government wants to make it even harder for kids like mine to access the life saving care they need WHEN they need it makes me physically sick. Please accept my humble donation to help make life easier for kids like mine, not harder.
