On September 9, Mayor Joyce Craig signed a resolution declaring the week of September 23-29, 2019 to be “Diaper Need Awareness Week” in the City of Manchester.
In New Hampshire, a family spends over $80 a month to buy diapers for their child. New Hampshire children under the age of 5 on federal food assistance exceeds the national average. In NH, 76% of working mothers have infants in diapers. Nationally, a parent misses work an average of 4 days per month due to lack of diapers.
To combat this issue, Amoskeag Health and the Makeover Ministry have worked together to create a community-based Diaper Drive to help start the first Manchester Diaper Pantry. Donations of diapers or funds will benefit families in need who are referred by a community agency to the Makeover Ministry on 40 Ronald Road, Manchester.
The grand opening of the Manchester Diaper Pantry will be Saturday, October 5th, 2019 from 9am-12pm and is open to the public. The Diaper Drive will continue through September 30th.
