Goal
Snakebites kill or maim an estimated 600,000 people or more every year worldwide. To put it in perspective, this equates to a monthly toll of more than 225,000 envenomations resulting in over 41,000 cases of permanent disability or disfigurement and 11,500 deaths. Most snakebite patients are young adults or children and those who survive their bites are faced with the prospect of amputations, blindness, chronic pain, nerve damage, infections, PTSD and many other complications that can prevent them from returning to their normal lives and place a significant burden on their families and villages. The physical, economic, psychological and social costs of a snakebite can haunt the family of a victim for generations.
The World Health Organization recently designated snakebite as a top priority neglected tropical disease, but much remains to be done. Over 90% of snakebites occur in rural areas of the developing world and less than 5% of victims will receive life-saving antivenom treatment. Our mission is to reverse this vicious cycle of tragic snakebite outcomes through a combination of innovative research, clinical medicine, and education-based public health initiatives - but we need your help.
ASF team members donate their time, money, energy, and skills to supporting our mission and saving the lives and limbs of snakebite victims around the world. This means that 100% of your tax-deductible donation goes to supporting our efforts to save the lives and limbs of snakebite patients worldwide. Snakebite is a global health crisis, and your support is critical to addressing it. Every donation, no matter how large or small, helps us make a difference for the patients we serve.
Thank you for your support!
