The impact on the life of a survivor of childhood sexual abuse can be severe and long-lasting, they can experience depression, PTSD and attachment disorders due to the effects of childhood trauma. Social isolation is a significant barrier for survivors, reducing their ability to interact with the community.
Shockingly, every 9 minutes a child is abused in Australia, and 1 in 6 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually abused during their childhood.
Childhood sexual abuse often goes unreported, or it will take on average 20 years for a survivor to tell anyone about it meaning often survivors suffer from physical, emotional and psychological issues their whole lives.
The Stepping Out Program provides free services to survivors of childhood sexual abuse and its related trauma supporting them through their recovery and growth centered on their personal circumstances such as; social inclusion programs, trauma reducing yoga sessions, workshops, housing assistance and case management to help people get back on their feet.
