Goal
We are developing a local network of air monitors to do baseline air monitoring in a 3-5 mile radius around the proposed PTTGC ethane cracker plant in Dilles Bottom, OH.
We are working with the Freshwater Accountability Project to purchase and install at least 6 Purple Air monitors. These air monitors will provide us and with the critical continuous air reports that we need to defend the Ohio River Valley and provide concerned residents with online in real time data available at anytime.
Dilles Bottom, OH is the proposed home to the PTTG Ethane Cracker Plant which will use fracked gas to make plastic pellets. We currently have no baseline data of Air quality in the region and we have seen no effort from any government agencies to do something about it.
We know that ethane crackers are major emitters of carbon dioxide and particulate matter which will have major impacts to air quality in the region. But what does the air quality look like today?
Once we establish a baseline then it becomes a reliable indicator of when to do further testing, like get a SUMMA canister, and file right to know requests. It saves time and resources. It gives communities in the valley decision-making power in a way we've had. And it's open sourced, easy to use, sharable, and scalable.
The only way to know is to start testing now. We are asking you to help us raise $1,924 to get the facts we need to keep our neighbors safe and help assure greater protection under the law.
Here is a breakdown of those costs:
Purple Air Monitors: $260 x 6 = $ 1560
Spare SD Cards for Monitor: $10 x 6 = $ 60
Direct Mailing to inform residents & find Participants = $ 100
Travel to set up (est.): 300 miles @ $.58 per mile = $ 174
Shipping = $ 30
Total = $ 1924
