Goal

Increase young adult voter turnout and engagement in political activism using the medium of modern technology and gamification to bind interest of youth into real-life politics.

There are many important issues requiring immediate attention by our elected officials which are stymied by the current stalemate of partisan politics across the country.

We believe the collective act of Momentum users overcoming in-app local, state, and national obstacles will demonstrate that they are not alone in their shared eagerness to see a progressive shift in representation and action throughout our political system.

To witness the swell of people joining from around the country will energize the youth, and hopefully others, to participate in our next election!

This is a digital call to arms and order!

Mobile App Experience:

App users will be prompted to provide basic information including:
Name, age, and zip code.
Political/Social Interests (likely optional)
App users will be able to create a basic character avatar that allows for customization (skin color/hair/clothing).
Once joined, they will face a “first level” challenge or obstacle they must overcome to join the “momentum”
The app will display momentum as some arbitrary measure of the progress of engagement, app wide

Obstacle System

App users will be prompted to interact with “obstacles” individually but participation will be seen as a group (local like county/state/USA or by interest). Other users of the app will appear alongside the user interacting with the obstacle. Overcoming an obstacle will require mass engagement, but will vary depending on interest/topic/region.

Users will be able to “upgrade” their avatar’s appearance by completing “calls to action”.
Calls to action will have reward values in the form of in-app “tokens”. (no monetary value)
Users will be able to upgrade their “force” with tokens from the app and apply them to their character
Upgrades shall have a visual element to them and can be seen by other app users. Like a showcase of their strength. This is comparable to armor upgrades in video games.
Obstacles may have a health bar to encourage more participation
Obstacles can be interest based, like “LGBT+” equality, fair worker compensation, voter rights, etc.

Overcoming obstacles

Once an obstacle is concurred all users will be rewarded with some upgrade or “achievement”.
The “health” of an obstacle should be large enough that it requires many users to overcome.
New obstacles will appear after each one is overcome. This represents the constant struggle we as people must engage in to overcome real world obstacles.

Calls to Action

A call to action can be selected by a user and once completed, they will receive tokens as rewards to purchase in-app upgrades for their avatar.

App Engagement

App engagement will be fostered by the motivation to overcome obstacles. By inviting others to participate they will increase their “force” and also increase odds of beating an obstacle.

Users will be able to compare stats of engagement from different regions (county/state/age/etc), cultivating interaction.
The app will provide voter information like regional political contact information

The app will show users pushing or battling against the obstacle (see inspirational image at top). When they see there isn’t much progress they will be motivated to invite others or be more involved through calls to action.

Technical

The app will need to be developed with a framework capable of producing multi-platform builds (iOS/Android) and visually stunning graphics and interactions. Like Unity or Unreal or similar engine.

Will require cloud based architecture to support:
