On Thursday November 18th, elders and professionals from Borana, Samburu, Pokot, Turkana and Somali communities came together for the release of the report, Stealth Game published by the Oakland Institute, on how "community conservancies" devastate the lives of people and land in Northern Kenya. They held a press conference about the experiences of communities in Northern Kenya at the hand of rangers from the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), including sharing how the NRT were allegedly involved in human rights abuses and the dispossession of pastoralists from their lands.
After the press conference, some community members who were heading home to Isiolo were in a head on collision before reaching Karatina in Nyeri County, where their matatu had a collision with another vehicle. Several people had their limbs broken and have serious injuries.
The Oakland Institute is collecting funds for their urgent medical care.
