Maisha Meds is a technology enabled healthcare company with the goal of improving access to affordable and high-quality medicines. Our software is used in over 1,500 pharmacies, clinics and drug shops in East Africa, where healthcare providers log 500,000 sales each month to patients. In our first four years of full-time operations, we have become the largest digitized private healthcare network in the region, with the potential to aggregate demand for medications and scale services quickly.
We work in rural East Africa, where a single doctor is expected to support 8,000 patients, 1 in 10 medications are poor-quality or counterfeit, public health facilities frequently lack essential medications, and few patients have health insurance. In this context, 60% of patients visit drug shops or pharmacies for their primary care, including for typhoid, malaria, high blood pressure, diabetes, and family planning with little clinical oversight or a confirmed diagnosis. Maisha Meds leverages data and technology to ensure that these patients receive appropriate and effective medication and diagnostics at an affordable price.
We pay healthcare providers to deliver high quality care, streamline distribution, and improve transparency in an environment where the majority of patients often pay cash for low-quality medicines that they do not need: for example, our evidence-based approach on the use of small financial incentives leads to a 330% increase in appropriate malaria care.
Your donation will enable low-income patients to receive affordable, high quality and appropriate medication through our pharmacy-based subsidy program.
