Kylo and a few other dogs were recently seized from a property by our friends at Chatham County Animal Services (CCAS) after neighbors reported they had been abandoned. When CCAS officers arrived, they found dogs who had clearly been left without care or protection, but Kylo’s injuries told an especially painful story.
He was limping and not putting any weight on one of his legs, so our medical team had Kylo X-rayed for an assessment. The X-rays revealed that Kylo’s rear left tibia and fibula have been completely shattered near the knee, with bullet fragments throughout the fracture. We have no idea when, how or why this happened, but we do know the damage is so severe that he cannot use the leg at all. The best chance for Kylo to live a happy, pain-free life is amputation surgery, so he can run around without a bum leg that no longer works for him.
Kylo is scheduled for surgery this Monday with an amazing and caring staff at Faulkville Animal Hospital. His surgery is estimated to cost close to (if not over) $3,000 and because of his size, we expect it may be closer to the higher end, since he will also be neutered and brought up to date on all of his vaccines and preventatives, so he is ready to begin his new life fully ready for adoption.
Afterward, Kylo will need time to heal in foster care, along with medications, follow-up veterinary visits, and supportive care to help him recover and adjust to life as a three-legged dog.
The good news is that dogs adapt incredibly well, and once healed, Kylo will be able to run, play, and enjoy life without pain. Despite everything he has endured, Kylo is exactly the kind of dog who reminds us of the incredible resilience animals have. Even after pain and neglect, Kylo is sweet, goofy, and full of love. He’s already won over the hearts of our staff and is currently resting comfortably in a foster home where he is being showered with the care and kindness he should have known all along.
Kylo has already been through more than he should. Now we have the chance to help him begin a new chapter in life, and we are asking for your help. Every gift - no matter the size - goes directly toward Kylo’s surgery, recovery, and care as he prepares for the loving home he’s always deserved.
We hope you will consider making a gift today to support Kylo’s journey to healing. Together, we can help this brave dog leave his painful past behind and step into a future filled with love.
