Funding Appeal

I am alone here with my young children. Before I spoke to European Lawyers in Lesvos I was completely lost. Their assistance was very beneficial. Thanks to them I was able to understand the asylum process and then to explain in my interview why I left my country and cannot go back. They play a huge role in helping the refugees. Fatima, 28, Syria.

European Lawyers in Lesvos is a registered charity, so donations are tax-deductible*.

In the last 3 years, ELIL has provided free legal assistance to over 9,000 refugees on Lesvos, including over 500 unaccompanied minors.

Our work makes a real difference: of those we have assisted, 74.5% have been granted asylum, compared to an average of 46.5% in Greece. We have also been able to help over 3,600 vulnerable people move out of Moria/Lesvos and over 900 people be reunited with their family members elsewhere in Europe.

ELIL has recently been granted the 2019 Pax Christi International Peace Prize for our work in upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights and providing meaningful access to justice and legal assistance for refugees on Lesvos.

Following a funding cut, ELIL recently had to suspend its work on Lesvos. However, we are now over 80% of the way towards raising enough funding to be able to restart our work on 1 August 2019 and then continue operating for at least a year.

Please donate now to help us achieve our fundraising target of 35,000 EUR, so that we can restart our work to protect human rights and uphold the rule of law.

You can donate by debit/credit card using the form to the left, by bank transfer to the account below or by PayPal (below). We are extremely grateful for all donations.

*We are a registered charity in Germany. This means your donation is tax deductible in Germany. If you are not a German tax payer, your donation should be tax deductible, depending on the tax rules that apply in the country where you pay tax.
