2019 was an incredible year for Totonga Bomoi! In February, Katie returned to Congo and delivered the business training curriculum to 23 seamstresses, one baker, and one taxi driver. They spent one week together at a retreat center in Auzi, Congo and delved into the following lessons: Business Basics, Ethics and Leadership, Comparative Advantage, Record Keeping, and much more. It changed their lives forever.
In February 2020, we provided business training for 23 artisans like never before. Through a new partnership with our curriculum supplier, Alternativ, we were able to train 5 teachers in Congo to administer our business training. By doing so, we are now able to offer business trainings twice a year: one through our local teachers and one with onsite teaching by Katie and Kelly.
The end of March brought an unprecedented closure of our beloved boutique in our headquarter city of Aru due to COVID-19. This closure left 8 of our most determined and diligent artisans without employment. At this time, we are providing relief efforts to our artisans through the purchase of basic supplies, such as rice, cooking oil, bar soap, salt, and paracetamol.
Donations made to Totonga Bomoi after April 1st will go to our continuing relief efforts for our DRC team due to COVID-19. In order to give to Project Lincoln, please click the checkbox before donating.
