        Goal

I’m sure you know the story of Chanukah. But, there’s a part that you probably never thought about. I’m going to tell you that story and ask for your help.

Imagine a small child, David, living in Ancient Israel under Greek rule. He knows that he has to duck out of sight when the Greek Soldiers come around. He is not allowed to go out to the market or to play outside. He is lonely and scared and misses the way things used to be.

Does that sound familiar to you?

Sary is an 8-year-old girl. She loves to learn about her Judaism and traditions. She looks forward to meeting her Jewish friends every Wednesday to study, play, and learn. Then, in one fell swoop, Covid-19 stole her community and her weekly Jewish “time”.

Sary needs your help. And she is not the only one.

Jenna never missed a Yizkor for her father since he passed. But this year, it looked like she’d miss out on that very special moment of remembering her father.

Then there is Anne, she has been looking forward to celebrating Chanukah with the community, it is one of the highlights of the year and brings so much Jewish pride and joy, seeing the Menorah being lit in downtown Puerto Vallarta, this year, it won't be possible.

And of course, the special seniors in our community who are missing visits from their grandchildren and family.

These wonderful people are feeling lonely, depressed, and in search of a community, right now.  They need your help.

You can help them. You can be a Maccabee.  Just like the Maccabees of old who won the war, lit the Menorah, and reunited the community.

We need your help to fight to reunite our community.

We all depend on real social interaction, community, and friendship. It gives us meaning. It gives us strength. It makes us who we are!

Your gift will help create community, even in these difficult times.Your donation of $180 -- or any amount – helps make it possible. You can bring this community together!

With your help, We will bring a Menorah on the back of a truck, with music, dancing and latkes, to each and every Jewish home in Puerto Vallarta. where so many will celebrate safely and still enjoy the warmth and excitement of the holiday.

Your gift will also help create other special “covid-friendly” Chanukah and Shabbat celebrations, so we can stick together as a community in a socially safe way.

And Your gift will have an impact far after Chanukah because your gift will send packages and create a special “Judaism at Home” program, where we will continue to connect to each other holiday after holiday.

Your gift will give more than programs and food, your gift will be a message of love and care. You will be sending a message “You are not alone. We are all part of one community.”

Your gift will do so much. Your gift will give Sary a way to continue learning about heritage, and your gift will give David a meaningful chanukah celebration, food assistance to those who need, and your gift will facilitate check-in calls and safe visits to the elderly and homebound.

This has been a tough year for all of us, and some of us have it worse than others.

You can make sure our community has a strong network of support when they need it most.

No one fully understands the impact of the pandemic and how our lives have changed. But one thing is for sure. Your love and support will be understood and appreciated by many.

When you send your gift of $180, you will light up their hearts with love, connection, and friendship. You’ll bring Jewish joy to our community and to those who really need a boost.

If $180 is a lot for you right now, any amount will help. If you can give more, please do so. Whatever you can give, please know that whatever you send will be put to good use—every penny.

Sincerely and with warm wishes for Happy Chanukah!

        Rabbi Shneur Hecht

P.S. Please consider a gift of $180 today to help Sary, Jenna, and Anne and so many others a wonderfully vibrant community to connect. You will help them with their loneliness, and with their connection to Judaism that they miss so much. This community needs you to connect to their Judaism, community, and support system.
