In 2018, contributions allowed BRHP to help 13 families with the cost of summer camp. In past years, BRHP has provided these families with $400 each towards the cost of the camp, although the fees for summer camps can reach into the thousands.
Each summer, BRHP receives dozens of applications requesting assistance to camps including the Y in Central Maryland, Kids Revolution, Camp Rock, Baltimore All Star Basketball Camp, and Howard County Recreation and Parks. A $60 contribution would cover camp for one day, a $300 contribution would cover camp for one week, a $1200 contribution would cover camp for one month, and $3,600 contribution would allow a child to attend camp all summer long. Contributions are tax deductible and will flow into the Executive Director’s Discretionary Fund and marked Assistance for BRHP Children.
Additional assistance for after-school activity fees, organized sports and clubs fees, and fees to community associations would also be beneficial to families in our program. These fees, many of them in the hundreds of dollars, are often a barrier to our families connecting with their neighborhood. Helping families to make that connection is one of the primary goals of our counseling program, and lessening the financial barriers to doing is the goal of our assistance to families with children.
