Goal
It’s hard to believe it’s time for the Annual Fund already! The East Granby Library Association Board of Directors and Staff would like to thank all library patrons and visitors for their generous contributions to EGPL, both past, present, and future. Our mission statement of being a “friendly, welcoming gathering spot that offers materials, services, programs, and cultural events to meet the personal, professional, educational, social, and civic needs of the community” continues to be our touchstone. Everything we do aims to support those goals.
Looking back, 2023 proved to be a year of connection. While we continued to expand our collection of materials, we also focused on programs and events that brought the community together. Our 20th Annual Juried Art Show brought together amazing talent from all over New England. When a pipe froze and broke two weeks into the art show, the initial panic was replaced by sheer relief that it wasn’t worse. Everyone was so supportive and understanding of the time needed to get our Linda Veirs Meeting Room repaired. We missed seeing our Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies regulars, but the joy was felt equally between patrons and staff when movies returned to our lineup. The unexpected damage prompted us to move up some long-term plans the Board of Directors had in mind, so in addition to repairing the meeting room, we also updated the Children’s Room into a bright and cheerful space.
EGPL fostered community connections by hosting a record number of events and programs, with topics ranging from finance to animals to wig building, and we had over 10,000 program attendees! In addition, our Summer Reading program had a record number of participants!
Our year of connection continued outside the library building where hundreds of volunteers gave thousands of hours to shape Doreen’s Nature Trail. The result far exceeded our wildest dreams. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a limited budget, we were so grateful for the additional support we received through donations and a grant from the East Granby Greater Together Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. We created a story trail to be enjoyed by all on Doreen’s Nature Trail. We also updated the courtyard behind the library with new furniture for groups to meet as well as musical flower chimes that have been enjoyed by children of all ages. The dedication of Doreen’s Nature Trail on what would have been her 50th birthday brought so many people together to honor our friend.
Whether you make a one-time donation or become a recurring supporter, your generosity directly supports the continued growth and success of the East Granby Public Library. Your tax-deductible contribution, no matter the size, has a tangible impact on the quality of services we can provide as we raise funds for the third of our budget not covered by the town.
Thank you in advance for supporting our Annual Fund Drive as generously as you can. Your contribution makes EVERYTHING at the library possible.
