Thank you for visiting Bay Area Community Land Trust's 2024 Capacity Building Campaign! We invite you to partner with us to preserve our communities and create affordable housing co-ops in Berkeley and Oakland.
Imagine a place that feels like home. A space filled with food, warmth, music, family — a safe sanctuary where you can lay your head in peace. Many such homes make up your community, where you and your neighbors live in healthy, stable, affordable homes that are yours. Your home is shielded from the crushing, extractive system that surrounds you, and together with a community of neighbors and like-minded people, you democratically steward this place together — for yourselves, your community, and for generations to come.
Will you partner with us in making this community of belonging a reality?
At the Bay Area Community Land Trust (BACLT), this is the bold future we work toward. We believe housing is a human right, and that the communities most at risk of displacement must be preserved and uplifted. This is why BACLT intervenes to buy multifamily homes with low-income residents at risk of displacement, preventing investors from pushing out long-time residents. It's why we work with the residents to create affordable, stable, democratically-run housing cooperatives. This transformative work is challenging and labor intensive, which is why we need many hands — including yours!
Your partnership will help sustain this vital community work. There are many opportunities to engage with our Raise the Roof Capacity Building Campaign:

It’s no secret that long-time Berkeley and Oakland residents — especially in low-income BIPOC communities — are being displaced en masse. Since 2020, nearly 8,000 homes affordable to low income households have been taken from our neighborhoods. Of course building new affordable housing is part of the solution; but equally important is the preservation of the homes and deeply-rooted communities that are being erased.
BACLT is proud to partner with an ecosystem of Community Land Trusts, co-ops, residents, and community organizations to transform housing and policy to be more democratic, community-controlled, and truly serve all people. This is a grassroots, people-powered movement for housing justice that needs all hands on deck. Join us today!
