Thank you for visiting Elizabeth's Closet's 2024 donation page.
We are thrilled to share that because of your generosity, we donated over $65,000 to the Beaumont Infant Bereavement Program! We look forward to another generous year supporting those families who go through the unimaginable loss of a child.
On April 8th, 2019, during a routine doctor’s appointment, we found out the unthinkable; our 34-week unborn child no longer had a heartbeat. We were immediately sent to the hospital to induce labor and begin the physical process of delivering a baby. In addition, what most parents don’t have to endure, we had to attempt to somehow understand we wouldn’t be bringing this child, our first, home with us.
Like many parents in our situation, not only were we not prepared to receive such devastating news during what was supposed to be another quick check up, we were not at all prepared to be going to the hospital to give birth. We had decided early on we wanted the element of surprise ... was our first born a girl or a boy? Now, in this moment, that joy and excitement had been taken away. To begin our grieving and make decisions for the next steps, we opted to find out that we were having a baby girl. Unprepared for her arrival, the amazing staff of Beaumont quickly found a beautiful outfit for her so we, along with our families, could spend a very special 24 hours with her. On April 9th, 2019, Elizabeth Ann was born into this world. After delivering, we learned she had become tangled in the cord and that’s why she didn’t survive.
Although our sweet Elizabeth’s time here on earth was short, in that moment we knew her little life was destined for more. Elizabeth’s life was intended to make an impact on so many others, and our mission, as her parents, to make sure that happens.
We want to give back ... and we want Elizabeth’s memory to live on. Our goal is to fundraise to support other families that deal with the unimaginable - the loss of a child - and help other parents that go into the hospital with the hopes of the future, only to leave empty-handed with just the memory of what could have been.
We would like to provide the funds raised by Elizabeth’s Closet to the Beaumont Bereavement Program to help support the purchasing of clothing (including headbands, hats, swaddles), memory bears, family memory boxes, books, and services that can help support the emotional healing associated with perinatal loss.
We just want to be able to help other families that have spent months preparing to bring a child home, not the physical, mental, and emotional trauma that begins in that moment as their lives are changed forever.
