Every year, thousands of refugees arrive in Greece and Poland, fleeing violence and persecution. Upon arrival, they face complicated asylum procedures and limited access to legal aid. ELIL is on the front line, providing free legal aid to those in urgent need of assistance, so that refugees have a fair chance to seek protection and rebuild their lives.

In Greece, we support refugees throughout their asylum process, both immediately after their arrival in the island camps (Lesbos and Samos) and on the mainland (Athens and Thessaloniki). Although the number of refugees is increasing, the number of legal organizations is shrinking.

At the Polish-Belarusian border, the ELIL team fights for the rights of refugees who are violently pushed back and detained in exclusion zones, where many - including families and unaccompanied children - struggle to access basic services and legal support.

Your support can make a life-changing difference. Your donation ensures that refugees receive important legal assistance, unjustified deportations are prevented and their right to asylum is upheld.

In 2024, ELIL has already helped over 7,000 people in Greece and Poland. We need your support to continue our work. Your donations will help us expand our teams in both countries, hire more lawyers and provide vital legal support to uphold the rule of law and protect the human rights of refugees at the EU borders.
