Goal
This initial amount of $2,000 will fund our need for equipment, website development, storage, training and media storage. All the money raised will go directly to the Elgin Oral History Project which is a volunteer-based, community organization whose primary goal is best expressed below:
Vision Statement
Shaping the future by preserving heritage, discovering new knowledge, and sharing our stories with the world.
Mission Statement
Provide a publicly available oral-history database and storage that will connect today’s Elginites to their past by interviewing all who wish to share their stories and capturing their cultural inheritance. Elgin, Texas was founded in 1872 but its history as a landing spot predates formal incorporation. This EOHP intends to record and preserve stories as they are remembered by those who’ve told them. We will not be fact-checking or editorializing but simply providing the tales of those (1) lived in Elgin, (2) attended school here, (3) called Elgin home and/or (4) remembered special things about Elgin.
Core Values
Focus on obtaining a meaningful result while respecting what the source (interviewee) contributes to the interview.
Practice high ethical standards while conducting all interviews.
Respect and protect the privacy of the source (interviewee).
Meet the changing needs and desires of sources (interviewees) in terms of recording environment while remaining mindful of the age, health, and mobility of the source
Seek to include all Elginites (people of all colors, differently-abled, young and old, LBGTQ, etc.) who want to share their stories.
Thank you for your help in getting this important project off of the ground!
