Goal
My name is Lindsay Prigge and I am running for a six-year term as a Trustee for the Barrington Area Library in Barrington, IL. My husband and I have lived in the area for nearly four years and we have three beautiful children in the Barrington public school district. Prior to focusing full-time on raising my children, I spent over 10 years working in finance in the public sector. What you can expect from me during my campaign and beyond is honesty, authenticity, and leadership.
As with all communities, Barrington has not been spared from the effects of the pandemic and recent inflation spike. Our students are still on the path of recovery from learning loss, we have seen a rise in opioid overdose, teen suicide, and death, and empty store fronts in the Village as the cost of doing business has skyrocketed. I believe the Barrington Area Library can play an essential role in lifting up the parts of our community that have experienced the greatest of these issues by:
• Building a partnership with our school districts to create book kits focused on increasing literacy at all levels, working together with local nonprofits promoting awareness of addiction, offering resources for families to turn to, and hosting speakers to educate our citizens on the warning signs of opioid use and depression.
• Ensuring the taxpayer funds allocated to the library are spent with the community’s interests and needs in mind.
• Hosting small business workshops for new entrepreneurs on accounting basics, marketing tools, social media, and more.
Right now, you will find me engaging at countless community events, volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, and running the parent Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion bookclub through the Lines Elementary PTO. I have rallied community members to reach out to school board and district leadership to protect the right to read and I am passing on my passion for reading and knowledge to my kids at our local, nationally-ranked Barrington Area Library.
Why me? I am excited to bring my varied financial knowledge to help maintain the library board’s balanced budget with fiscally-responsible planning. I am invested in preserving the library that has won yet another prestigious 4 Star Award from the Library Journal. You can count on me to be a link between the library and ALL of our community members; those right here in the Village of Barrington, north to Tower Lakes, east in Deer Park, and over in Carpentersville. I will advocate for expanding services to the underserved areas of our community including those with disabilites, senior citizens, people of color, and those who identify on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. Most of all, I will uphold the value that libraries, including BAL, continue to provide open access to information and resources and resist censorship. As Library Trustee, I will help facilitate these things by advocating for library resources and advising and supporting the library administration and staff as a representative of our community.
Please consider a donation to my campaign for the April 4th, 2023 consolidated election as I seek to preserve and continue to progress the Barrington Area Library as Trustee. Thank you.
