Endometriosis Foundation of Houston: Rethink Endo

What is Rethink Endo? Rethink Endo is an initiative to transform how we address endometriosis in our community. We are committed to debunking the myths of endometriosis and encouraging individuals to be more open about their symptoms.

The Rethink Endo initiative exists to address the needs of our community. Understanding endometriosis is important, but focusing on the disease alone ignores many other factors that keep a person trapped in cycles of pain, doctor visits, stress, fatigue, flare ups, loss of productivity -- all of which decrease the quality of life. Many individuals receive  outdated and incorrect information about the disease and treatments, which leads to delayed diagnosis; it can take an average of eight  doctors across 10 years to diagnose endometriosis

Public awareness of endometriosis is key, because it is estimated that 1 in 10 women are affected by endometriosis. Nearly 200 million individuals are affected by this disease worldwide.

Disease recognition helps the public understand that symptoms like irregular periods and pelvic pain are not “normal” or something to be ignored and getting them checked is necessary. While there is no cure for endometriosis, there are treatments that can help ease the stress and complications of specific symptoms. The more people are informed about endometriosis, the better the chances are for early diagnosis.

Rethink Endo serves our community in new ways by focusing on one goal: Break the Cycle.

We will raise awareness by:

  1. Debunking the myths of endometriosis; and

  2. Encouraging individuals to be more open about their symptoms
