Keeping Our Future Leaders Free: Education over Incarceration
exalt elevates expectations of personal success for youth ages 15-19 who have interfaced with the criminal justice system. We inspire youth at a critical crossroads to believe in their worth, from the first steps in contemplation through the journey to create lasting behavioral change. Our powerful combination of structured classes for tangible skill development, individualized support to navigate the education and justice systems, placement in paid internships and an alumni network of resources equips youth with the tools and experience to avoid further criminal justice system involvement.
Our graduates break the viscous cycle of recidivism with unprecedented results - less than 5% are re-convicted and 75% of eligible cases receive sentence reductions, opening lifelong access to important opportunities. When young people are referred to exalt, they typically are disengaged from their education, with over 60% having been suspended at least once from high school. We turn this experience around through our proprietary curriculum, paid internship placements, as well as individualized planning and advocacy. As a result, over 95% of our program graduates remain enrolled in school and on track to receive their High School Diploma/Equivalency Degree by age 20.
At exalt, we believe that young people thrive when they are offered an educational experience both that humanizes and empowers them as learners. Everyday, we see how access to opportunities for fulfilling work helps young people cultivate and maintain healthy relationships and develop positive future-oriented goals for lifelong self-fulfillment.
We thank you for your support during this season of giving. Your commitment helps pave the path for young people to access what were once unimaginable opportunities.
