Educational Network, Wifi and School Maintenance
The children at the GMAD Academy of Learning use tablets and laptops to learn. Most of the children that stay at the GMAD Children's Shelter are in our care anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. Because of our relatively small window of influence we have in the lives of these children, the technology we use acts as a springboard and becomes a crucial element in our efforts to make a sustainable difference.
In 2017 when we started the GMAD Academy of Learning we rolled out a technology infused curriculum that same year. It was a hit! Kids with no prior schooling experience were using technology to learn at their own pace. Fast forward to today, laptops and tablets are getting old and breaking down and the academic content available on GMAD's network is outdated. We need help, a system in place to make the good that is going on at our schoolhouse more sustainable.
Community Development Network (CDN) is a nonprofit that has boots on the ground in Ghana. They use simple technology, create educational networks with a vast amount of learning content and maintain all of it! They gave us this bid and we are excited about the opportunities that their proposal could bring all of the kids served at GMAD's school.
In short, the bid includes the following: Running a dedicated fiberoptic wifi line to GMAD, installing a closed network for educational learning at our school and Children's Shelter and ongoing maintenance and upkeep of our system and and the tech devises (laptops and tablets that the kids learn on).
Having this Network at GMAD and using CDN will be a game changer! Using their services will insure that all children have the quality education they need to reach their full potential. Having Wifi at GMAD will also be a game changer, there are a lot of benefits to having Wifi. The main benefit is that it allows GMAD to provide a service (Wifi) for money (volunteers staying at GMAD) so that the monthly expenses of the Wifi and CDN upkeep will be totally covered by the volunteers benefiting from the Wifi.
The good this system will do and the way it will elevate the students at GMAD will be remarkable! It also makes GMAD more sustainable.
