Goal

We nearly reached our initial goal of $1,500 for Education & Hygiene Kits for Ariang's Grade 8 students! THANK YOU! With your help, we can provide even more kits to deserving students. Help us exceed our first goal and provide an Education & Hygiene Kit to every mature girl at Ariang Primary School!

Hope for Ariang is committed to addressing the needs of our pupils in whichever way possible. We listen to their cries and together, try to address them. During our recent visit to Ariang School, our primary 8 pupils highlighted a few challenges which they are facing. They lack lanterns for lighting their houses so that they can study at night, they lack school backpacks for carrying books and our girls face even a more challenging problem of lack of sanitary towels.

Our girls are facing an issue of menstrual health with regards to hygiene and socio-cultural stigma. This issue forces them to skip school for a few days every month which affects the school attendance rate and skills acquisition.

We all know that when a girl faces obstacles in managing her menses in a healthy way, she becomes prone to infections, low self-esteem, and confidence. School-going girls opt to remain at home and this prevents her from achieving her goals or reaching her full potential.

We are, therefore, taking this challenge seriously because our aim is to provide quality education in a model that leaves no one behind. With some care and compassion, we support our girls to become the leaders that we desire the world would have.

Lack of lanterns is another big issue affecting all our primary 8 pupils. The candidates are determined to get the education to change their lives and empower their communities. However, they lack resources for enabling them to study at night.

In many households, there are only 1 kerosene-powered tin lanterns which are used only in the main house while other houses remain in darkness.  An efficient and durable solar-powered lantern costs around $10.

The other issue that the pupils requested us to help address is lack of school bags. Most pupils carry their books in their hands while others just put them in the pockets. This causes the books to tear off very fast. During rainy seasons, the books get exposed and tear out or get deformed quite easily.

A few pupils leave their books in school because it is usually tiring to carry many books back and forth every day.

A quick research with school bag retailers indicated that we can get a standard and durable bag for around $8.
