Edible Native Insects Farming
Tlachinoltepetl Natural Resources Protection Area (NRPA) is home to a rich diversity of edible native insects. At Micratena, we are launching an innovative insect farming initiative to promote sustainable food production, waste management, and biodiversity conservation—and you can be part of this transformative project.
What Will Your Donation Support?
🔍 Community Engagement & Research:
We are conducting a participative diagnostic in communities across Chocamán to understand local perceptions of edible insects. This cultural insight will guide our efforts to introduce insect farming as a sustainable practice.
🐛 Pilot Projects & Waste Management:
Your support will help us establish flybox pilots for Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming, turning organic waste into valuable resources. We are also working to attract and establish colonies of BSF, native crickets, and chicatanas, while conducting fieldwork to identify and document edible insect species in the region.
🌱 Sustainable Farming & Biodiversity:
By cultivating native insect species, we aim to create a model for sustainable food production that reduces waste, conserves biodiversity, and provides a nutritious food source for local communities.
Why Does This Matter?
Biodiversity loss is accelerating, and edible insects offer a sustainable solution to food security and waste management. This project protects nature, empowers communities, and promotes innovative farming practices—all while preserving cultural traditions and advancing scientific knowledge.
💚 Your contribution makes a real impact. Join us in building a sustainable future for Chocamán and beyond!
