Dr. Bonnie Lila Bowman Thurston and Alfred “A.V.” Bowman established this fund in memory of their parents following the death of their father in Oct. 2004. The Bowmans lived in Raleigh County for many years. He was president of New River Coal Co., a board member of Beckley College (later MSU), and a 25 year member of the Beckley Rotary Club. The scholarship award is need-based and available to graduates of any Raleigh County high school who are of good moral character, have a B average and will attend an accredited college or university in WV.
