CAF Sustainer Program

Asheville DSA is excited to launch a sustainers campaign for Carolina Abortion Fund (CAF) starting in June and running until December 2023. Our goal is to sign up 200 sustainers to provide ongoing support of $5 or more a month to CAF. Once you select your monthly contribution and link it with your bank account or credit card, CAF will automatically receive it.

CAF is a non-profit organization that provides financial, practical, and emotional support to people in North and South Carolina trying to access abortion care. Why is this so important? Abortions cost, on average, about $500. 75% of abortion seekers are low-income, and Medicaid in North Carolina won’t cover most abortions. Even if you have private insurance, it usually does not cover abortions. $500 is 70+ hours of minimum wage work, not including travel, housing, and childcare costs. And the Republican supermajority is about to make accessing abortion harder and more expensive, requiring interstate travel in most, if not all, cases.

        New to DSA? Asheville Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is an organization that seeks to transfer power from the ruling class to the working class. Socialists care about Reproductive Justice and abortion because we are concerned with the way society organizes labor and the economy. Having and raising children are forms of labor (work).  Restricting abortion and birth control means birthing people have to do this labor whether or not they want to, and whether or not the conditions (healthcare, child care, etc) are good. We believe that everyone should have the right to have, or not have, children.     

        Income should not limit a person's ability to make reproductive decisions. That’s why Asheville DSA is raising money for Carolina Abortion Fund to ensure that people seeking abortion care in the Carolinas have access to funding denied to them by other sources.
