Goal
Thank you so much for following my page as I run for re-election to the Mahwah Board of Education this November. Every donation I receive will go directly to helping me reach the total Mahwah community ahead of the election this upcoming November.
I wanted to take a moment to give a little background on myself, for those of you who don't know me yet.
Personally, my husband and I have lived in Mahwah for 30+ years. We have two children, who both went through Mahwah Public Schools and graduated from MHS in 2017 & 2019 respectively. Mahwah education has served them both well! Our son, Vinay, is successfully employed as a junior analyst for a bank in Chicago. Our daughter, Riya, is a senior at University of Delaware, majoring in Exercise Science and Spanish with the hopes of applying and getting into medical school. Interestingly, when our children joined the Mahwah public schools, graduation rates were at 78 %, but most recently, as reported to the Board at a recent meeting, class of 2022 graduation rate was 100%!
Professionally, I have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and have worked in community mental health for the majority of my career working with families, children and adolescents. At present, I work as a consultant with the Court Assessment Program. We mostly complete psychological evaluations for family court, including custody/visitation cases.
With regards to community involvement and service on the Board, I have always believed strongly in volunteering and giving back to one’s community. Every small bit on our part makes a difference. My interest in the school community started early on when my son started kindergarten. I initially got involved on HSO level, but when I started to hear the great work that the Mahwah School Foundation was doing, I thought that was a better fit for my interests as MSF was committed to fundraising for all schools K to 12. I enthusiastically joined the MSF, and volunteered to co-chair one of their flagship events, the Thunderbird Run. After chairing Thunderbird Run for several years, I became President of the MSF and remained in that position until approximately 2016.
Having served previously on the Board in an interim position for 10 months, I decided to run for Trustee position on the BOE in 2016, and began my first term in January of 2017. Through my tenure on the Board, I have served on several committees including negotiations, technology, community Relations, and Instructional & Curriculum/Special Education. I have been Chairperson of Instruction/Curriculum/Special Ed for the past three years, and am honored to serve as President of the Board since January of this year.
My hope is to earn your vote this November so that I can continue serving the Mahwah community for the next three years. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or concerns!
