Ian, I am still thinking of you and Courtney - ever since I found out. I wish there was some magic to ease the pain we all feel, especially for you... I guess some of that relief is through Courtney herself - she was the such a bright, brilliant, and energetic person. All of that I believe has left the most positive mark. On you, on my family, and, from what I saw at the services on the 2nd, everyone that got a chance to meet and work with her.

On behalf of the Brain Camp 2022 students: we are heartbroken and in disbelief learning about Courtney’s passing. Courtney stood out to all of us as a vibrant, kind, genuine, and generous soul, and we consider ourselves exceptionally lucky to have attended Brain Camp the year she did. Courtney and Ian truly went above and beyond for us, and we are deeply grateful for the beautiful memories of the BBQ beach day, surfing, and trivia nights the two of them voluntarily organized. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ian and Courtney’s family, wishing you strength in navigating this tragic loss.

Courtney, Thank you for taking a chance on me—for giving me opportunities so profound, beyond what I ever thought possible or believed I was capable of. Thank you for your mentorship and wisdom over the years, and above all, for your love and friendship. I will miss you so so much.

Courtney - you’re the most compassionate, genuine, and hilarious human l've ever known. You built community wherever you went. You were a force of nature who somehow always had the energy to pour into others. Your love and light changed so many of us for the better. I love you and I miss you.

Courtney, I am incredibly honored to call you my friend. I live in awe of what you've accomplished and the type of person you are every day. You are "The Rainbow Connection" at UCSB and beyond, uniting countless student dreamers to pursue their goals, no matter how impossible it seems. Though you have left our physical world, you will always be a powerful force that shapes us all. I love you, Courtney.

I was so sorry to hear this news. Courtney brought joy to so many, with her great enthusiasm and quest for knowledge. I remain very grateful that I had a chance to work with her in my lab at UC Davis.
