The world powers agreed in 1994 on Ukraine's borders. Ukraine held up their end of the deal, while Russia continued their centuries-long commitment to dishonesty and unprovoked aggression against their sovereign neighbors. What stunned me, was seeing the 'President' of the other world power in this agreement backstab Ukraine. I'm disgusted that my fellow citizens empowered someone whose sense of any kind of ethics appear to be completely absent. Whenever I visit my family in Lithuania, including just last summer, I can't help but see a branching timeline: A country that was given opportunity to break free of occupation, growing more beautiful, prosperous, and free with every passing year as the grotesque stench of Russian culture wears off over time. And in the other timeline, Ukraine fighting heroically for its' own opportunity at this potential future, defending not just their own future, but also my vulnerable Lithuania and the rest of Europe. Since my government here in the US appear to be confused about the ethical and just stance to take in this situation, I feel compelled to contribute somehow. I know it's not much, I wish I could give more, but hopefully the small amount given by this Lithuanian American is enough to remind at least one invader where Russia's border is. I have supported Ukraine ever since I learned about the aggressive Russian attacks on their country. I am amazed by the strength and dignity of the Ukrainian people and I think Zelenskyy carries himself like a true leader. I hope my donation can help support the soldiers who are fighting for their country’s freedom.

I'm ashamed of my country's government, but the people here still support Ukraine. Personally, I'm disabled, in a wheelchair, on a small fixed income. I can't give much. But I'm determined to show my support. Since the Revolution of Dignity, I've followed events in Ukraine. People ask me why I care, when Ukraine is so far away. I care because the people of Ukraine inspire me, they deserve freedom, self-determination, and respect for their borders, language, and culture... a separate, different culture than Russia; because of the promise this country made to Ukraine in the '94 Budapest Memorandum, which we have failed to keep from the first when Russia sent their little green men to force a fake, illegal referendum at the point of a gun; because the crimes against humanity by Russia against Ukrainian civilians and POWs are so heinous they break my heart and make me weep and throw up to see or read about, yet my country has apparently switched sides and become a cruel facsimile of its former self. I care about truth over lies, good over evil, freedom over tyranny, and keeping our promises. I feel so helpless in the face of all this evil. But I will continue to donate what I have, call my Representative and Senators, speak out online and in person, and most of all, fast and pray every day for Ukraine and her brave people, for their protection and for their victory. What is happening to Ukraine is wrong, and my country's failure to decisively act to support our ally, our moral cowardice in the face of empty threats from Putin during the last administration, and the outrageous turn toward Russia by the Trump administration are also wrong.
