Goal
We believe every child deserves to sleep in a clean, safe, and secure environment. After years of wear and tear, the building where our children lay their heads each night is showing serious signs of deterioration and, if not addressed soon, could pose a safety risk. This nearly 50-year-old structure has been weakened as termites continue to eat away at the wooden beams and central support pole. During a recent inspection, we were informed that the dormitory no longer meets code requirements.
In 2022, a missionary architect evaluated our buildings and developed a renovation plan for the dormitories. Our dream is to create an enclosed, bug-free, cozy, and clean space where our children can rest safely and peacefully each night.
By utilizing the existing structure, we can repair and reinforce the cement foundation while expanding the living space. Currently, our two small boys’ dorms house 10 boys in one room and 7 in the other. Ongoing roofing issues have made it clear that the entire roof must be replaced to ensure long-term safety and protection.
Another critical component of this project is replacing the wooden bunk beds, which—like the structural beams—are being damaged by termites. By building durable metal bed frames, we can provide beds that will last for years to come. Installing a locker system in the main dormitory area will also allow the children to safely store their belongings and help reduce clutter in their living space.
This project has been on our hearts for some time, but after Hurricane Melissa passed through the Caribbean and we experienced its effects through severe storms and a major roof leak, this need has become urgent. As we look ahead to 2025, this renovation is now at the top of our priority list.
We are prayerfully seeking generous donors, companies, and helping hands who feel called to partner with us and help make this dream a reality—providing our children with a safe place to rest, grow, and thrive.
