Goal
18th November 2023. This marks 20 years since Section 28 was fully repealed in the UK. Section 28 was a damaging piece of legislation that banned schools from teaching about LGBTQ+ people and relationships. Today, many are still feeling the effects of it, as adults.
Age-appropriate LGBTQ-inclusive education is currently a mandatory part of the Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE). This is a huge leap forward.
But there is also a growing tide of opposition to LGBTQ+ inclusive education. And the discourse is already having an impact. The Youth Voice Census 2023 revealed that 100% of the trans young people surveyed did not feel welcome at their secondary school.
We cannot backslide to the days of Section 28 and we must protect young people. Inclusive education benefits every child and young person.
Please help Protect LGBTQ-inclusive education.

There’s not much understanding for transgender people in this world, but Stonewall helps immensely…..

Where I grew up section 28 was retained by the local council and didn't repeal until the human rights act in 2010. I was 18. My whole life feeling isolated and broken until I left home for uni. It messed me up. And it's happening again to trans kids. We need to get the message out to people that they need to stand up to the loud minority targeting our rights. This isn't what people want. This is messing with innocent lives. Conversations are scary when so many of us have been rejected by our families and loved ones, but please talk to your family, friends and colleagues about this. It could save lives.
