Our goal is to support children's social, emotional, and intellectual development from birth through high school
The Library plays a pivotal role in helping to develop healthy, curious, happy kids. The pandemic underscored how vital investment in our community resources and institutions like the Library are. We need donations from our community partners to expand the investment in the youth of our community. Every dollar donated is appreciated and vital. Every dollar makes a difference and brings us one step closer to achieving our community goals. Please donate what you can today and help us to continue to spread our wings and fly!
What is YES
The Plainsboro Public Library has started the Youth Engagement Services (YES) project to transform our Youth Services floor. The YES project re-imagines the Youth Services Department to better meet the needs of all ages birth-18. This investment in YES will provide a full complement of services to all youth age ranges. YES programs nurture intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and peer collaboration with opportunities for hands-on tinkering. Access to digital resources increases allowing children to borrow educational tablets and Chromebooks in the library. The goal is to support easy, barrier-free access for all.
The YES project converts the Youth Services 3rd floor to better facilitate experiences that support critical library services. YES leverages robust digital infrastructure, adaptable spaces, appropriately sized furniture, and engaging tactile experiences for toddlers. Patron experience, inclusivity, digital resources, and environmental responsibility are all strategic themes that have influenced the guiding principles informing the proposed integral design.
Putting the YOUTH in YES: YES turns the Library into a destination, not just for story time and books but also for passive play experiences, hands-on experimentation, study time, and socialization. The spaces grow with our younger patrons and adapt to their changing needs.
An ENGAGING Environment: Functionality is key. We are incorporating practical workspaces, comfortable and adaptable furniture, an approachable circulation desk, and improved outdoor accommodations, all constructed of environmentally friendly materials.
Accessible SERVICES for All: Childhood development is not unlike a butterfly's stages of metamorphosis. At each stage, the butterfly has unique nourishment and environmental needs. Like the butterfly, varying needs also exist for toddlers, children, tweens, and teens.
Here is how we all can help: Every dollar makes a difference and brings us one step closer to achieving our community goals.
Thank you for your generous and continued support!
Sincerely,
Curt Emmich, Foundation President
