YEP-DC’s mission is to connect and empower early-to-mid career professionals through knowledge, career, and professional development programs that bridge education policy, practice, and research. By doing this work, we are equipping tomorrow’s leaders to answer the toughest challenges in education today and into the future.
YEP-DC is currently pressure testing its positioning in the market to fine-tune its programming as well as build a sustainability plan to grow our unique offerings. To continue YEP-DC’s important work, we need your financial assistance with three areas:
Expanding Program Offerings
-Next Step Series: PD geared toward young professionals who are hungry to grow their knowledge and sharpen their skills to succeed on the job. This recurring series is organized around topics that will generate career success including the Fall 2015 series equips participants with the tools needed to navigate their career search in education, exploring different sectors to ultimately land a job.
-Policy Roundtables: Leveraging our expansive network, we will continue to mobilize the sharpest leaders in DC to push policy and practice forward, and catalyze YEP-DC members to action through panels, roundtables, and seminars.
Strengthening Community Relationships
-Monthly Breakfast Club: Opportunity for participants to engage in community
service project in DC. Past projects include DCPS Beautification Day, serving a meal at SOME, MLK Day of Service, and Hispanic Heritage Festival Family Day.
-Thesis Advisor Program (TAP): YEP-DC has partnered with Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools to have 45 participants serve as a 1:1 mentor to a senior student at Chavez as they work on their senior thesis research paper.
-Mentorship Program: Connect YEP-DC members with mid-to-high level education professionals in the DC community who will mentor them while they develop clarity in career vision, strengthen interpersonal skills, and build their network.
Building Organizational Capacity
-Organizational Capacity: YEP-DC is currently a non-profit 501c3 organization run
by and for young professionals. Currently volunteer-run, we aspire to become a professional organization to broaden and deepen our impact and have taken strides to make this shift through the development and implementation of a 3 year strategic plan.
