Dear friends,
I hope you will join me in wishing a Happy 35th Anniversary to the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy!
Founded as the East Tennessee Children’s Choir in 1987, MECCA now includes the Emory Virginia Children’s Choir, the Highlands Youth Ensemble, Da Capo, MECCA Men, Bella Voce, and our NEW Explorers! Because of your support, we continue to be able to offer wonderful educational and performance opportunities for the children and youth in this region.
This year we are excited to offer a new program, the MECCA Explorers, to our youngest musicians in grades 1-3. Director/Instructor Emily McCraw is enthusiastic about working with the children, and I can tell you that they already LOVE the program! We have YOU to thank for the financial support to start this group and to keep our other groups thriving.
We have some fantastic plans for our 35th anniversary year:
- Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion performance with Roseanne Cash!
- Performances with the Symphony of the Mountains
- Candlelight Christmas Evenings at the Biltmore Estate
- Highlands Youth Ensemble “cabaret revue” at Barter Theatre and Milligan University
- 35th Anniversary Gala Spring Concert at the Paramount Center for the Arts
How can you help MECCA continue to provide these wonderful programs and experiences?
- You can sponsor a singer. Explorers tuition is $185 for the year, Children’s Choir tuition is $275, and Highlands Youth Ensemble tuition is $365.
- You can underwrite music purchase. One set of octavos costs about $180. If you would like to sponsor a piece(s), we would be thrilled to list your name or the name of your business in our program!
- You can make a donation in honor or in memory of someone. We currently award six named merit scholarships in addition to our tuition assistance.
- If you have never made a donation before, perhaps you would like to donate “$35 for 35” this year in celebration of our big anniversary. No donation is too small, and all donations go to benefit our singers!
