Goal
Lucy Parsons Labs is fundraising $1,500 to increase transparency in Chicago using public records requests. We are hoping to raise this money to continue to pay for various public records we are requesting under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Update: Based on the overwhelming support we have received, we are stretching our fundraising goal to $2,250.
Our requests have received significant coverage in the national press. A recent public records request by LPL showed the Berkeley Police doxxing protesters in a coordinated propaganda campaign. Another request detailed a surveillance corporation attacking nonprofits. We are also attempting to uncover the FBI file of Jon Burge; a Chicago Police commander notorious for torturing people into false confessions. Through the generous donations of this campaign we were able to pay our processing fees.
We are raising funds to pay for future FOIA requests and lawsuits. We also need to be able to pay for our upcoming trainings where we teach community members how to submit their own FOIAs.
With your donation we can continue to release data on the inner inner workings of city, state and federal government and our impact. We are an entirely volunteer run organization and any donation would go directly into expanding out work. Lucy Parsons Labs is a registered 501c3 non-profit and all donations are tax-deductible.
