Why I'm doing this
When I first arrived, Local Welcome (LW) was my first point of contact with the local community. I joined as a participant, and the LW charity welcomed me with open arms and smiles.

Through the rhythm of cooking, the sharing of meals, and the laughter of new friends, I found a place to belong—a place where the unfamiliar began to feel like home.

Over time, I became a volunteer leader at LW. I wanted to give back and help others, just as I was helped—so that new arrivals could feel welcome, make friends, and find their place in the community.

Now, I’m running the Derby 10K in March 2026 to raise money for LW. Your support will help this incredible charity continue welcoming and connecting new arrivals. Every donation makes a real difference—please consider supporting me on this journey!

About Local Welcome

In a divided world, Local Welcome uses the magic of food to bring communities together.

Local Welcome Derby is one of ten groups across the UK who meet monthly to cook and eat a delicious meal from scratch together.

Meals are attended by amazing humans like you - some people who were born in the local area, some new and some seeking sanctuary, or refugees.

It’s a great way to translate your values into action, make new friends, and learn delicious healthy recipes.

You might start cooking with strangers, but you’ll end up eating with friends!
