I cannot understand how such a dynamic country as China has not developed a set of laws based on compassion towards animals. Yet, there are Chinese who display a deep concern for animals, and courageously campaign for their welfare. However, cruelty to animals to one's species is common to all mankind, it is just a matter of degree according to how cultures developed. If China awoke to this dilemma, it could become a great world leader in humane behaviour.
