Your gift directly supports the mission and vision of Equity and Transformation (EAT)
Mission
Equity and Transformation (EAT)'s mission is to build social and economic equity for Black workers engaged in the informal economy in Illinois.
Vision
EAT visions a world where Black people are free to define their social, political, and economic future.
The informal economy: The informal economy is the diversified set of economic activities, enterprises, jobs, and workers that are not regulated or protected by the state.
Our Work
EAT is an impractical movement in that we confound established expectations about who is eligible to define the political & economic future of our country. We follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther King Jr and many others that grounded their movements by centering the voices of the most marginalized. Our goal is to provide a space for historically unemployed Black people to imagine new possibilities and do our best to provide the tools for them to create it.
Recent Win: We are proud to report that EAT (in partnership with the Pure Cannabis Coalition) won our cannabis equity campaign. On Friday, May 31st, 2019, Illinois became the 11th State to legalize cannabis and the policy we informed was praised as one of the most “Equity Centric Policies” in the nation and the 1st to incorporate reparations for the war on drugs

Alonzo's presentation at the Unitarian Church of Evanston this past Wednesday evening was excellent. Alonzo's historical background was very helpful. I have studied Racial history of the US, but have never heard about the rationale for reparations for the WOD.
