We’re proud to announce our new non-profit, Community Center for Immigrants (CCI) is taking off! CCI has been offering free Citizenship Classes for immigrants since March 2021. In that short time, we’ve served over 50 people and celebrated 5 new U.S. citizens. We received 501(c)3 status in June and just last week, we became an official affiliate of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc (CLINIC). This is exciting because it means we are one step away from applying for accreditation from the Department of Justice (DOJ). Before we can apply, we need to raise funds for our New Americans Program to show community support for our U.S. citizenship classes. That’s why we are asking our community to give today to help CCI achieve DOJ accreditation.
Your gift in support of DOJ accreditation allows CCI to change the lives of immigrants in Milwaukee by:
- Allowing us to file Citizenship applications on behalf of our students and represent them at their naturalization interview.
- Stepping in to meet the overwhelming need for immigration services. There are only seven organization in Milwaukee that have DOJ accreditation. CLINIC states the number of accredited organizations could be tripled and there would still be unmet needs for low-cost immigration legal services.
- Ensuring fairness of the naturalization interview process by serving as advocates at student interviews. I’ve seen numerous times where officers have incorrect information or ask questions that aren’t allowed during naturalization interviews.
Please consider donating to CCI today to support our campaign to become a DOJ accredited organization. The first $10,000 in gifts will be matched, doubling your impact! With your donation we will be able to expand our services to include in-house immigration assistance.
