Goal
We are raising funds to continue infrastructure development at the Te Kwe A'naa Warep Farm, a land back food justice project on the San Mateo Coast. The Deep Medicine Circle (DMC) is a WOC-led, collaborative nonprofit working at the Te Kwe A'naa Warep Farm to reimagine land use and agriculture in a way that advances racial, climate, health and economic justice goals.
This farm is located just a few steps away from where Portola landed and began his brutal conquest of what is now called the San Francisco peninsula. It is Ramaytush territory and the DMC is supporting the land return to Indigenous community, for the purpose of healing the land and the connection of the people to the land. We are farming a small part of the land to facilitate the land return process and to support community health in Ramaytush territory.
Over the past year, we have moved the fields from fallow into production, harvesting and delivering over 1000 lbs/week to our partners in San Francisco for distribution to community in most need. Booker T Washington Community Center, Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation's Kain Na Food Hub, Latino Task Force and the American Indian Cultural District distribute our food to community members in need.
These funds will be used to expand and implement our water system on site which is currently highly insecure and over-reliant on the creek, which we'd like to spare for our fish friends whose presence we will help to rehabilitate. We will be building out a network of ponds to bio-filter the water and return it to the creek. These funds will also be used to renovate onsite housing and to start renovating the historic barn to support our cultural and agricultural work.
Your donation is tax-deductible! We are thrilled to be doing this work which we believe is the future of land management and agriculture in these lands.
Our funders thus far include the 11th Hour Foundation, Tides Foundation, Panta Rhea Foundation, Cris Mulvey and Jack Kuehn, Sally Calhoun, Susan Pritzker, the Kataly Foundation, Metabolic Studio, and Jodie Evans, other local groups. Add your name to this growing list of supporters!
