Goal
The August Project is creating a coffee table book. This storytelling project seeks to:
1. underscore the dignity of Haitian people
2. memorialize our existence, and
3. create a profit for our literacy project in Haiti. (There is a direct correlation between literacy and poverty!)
We are actively working on a coffee table book in which we house stories of Haitian people all over the world. Your donations will go toward the photographer, editing, stipends for those who sit for photos in other countries, travel and publishing costs. Your donations will work in tandem with grants and alternative funding.
Our goal is to highlight the average Haitian or Haitian descendent and ask them questions about their movement, immigration, growth, displacement or general understanding of movement. We are interviewing Haitians around the world to share their story so that when it all said and done, our stories remain in our voices and in our perspectives. The written word is powerful and it is our duty to ensure the truth gets told.
This book serves as a counter narrative to negative media, as a reference to human dignity, as a keepsake and as an emphasis of our worthiness.
We thank you for your donation and we welcome your feedback. The coffee table book is set to be published December 2025. Release date subject to change. Reach out to ruth.jeanmarie@theaugustproject.org with questions.
