Hi! My name is Derick Kowalczyk, and I am partnering with Mission Clean Water as I set out to re-start my love of running. Under my day job, I help utilities and governments design and run decarbonization programs - but I have always had an itch to do more for water conservation, and access to clean water!
Running and endurance sports are not new to me - in high school I was a Class C New York State team champion. During college, I started rowing, but that was cut short when after a year, I developed a back injury. Now, many years have passed, and I have been looking for the inspiration to start running again.
Please support me as I train for the Philly marathon weekend 8k, where I will be sponsoring Mission Clean Water to conduct a well remediation! Costing $1,500 per well remediation, these projects help local communities that Mission Clean Water supports in Africa and South America to retrofit defunct and left behind wells, that were well meaning, but were never designed to last past the “picture phase” by other NGOs; Mission Clean Water focuses on practical training for local communities to ensure wells can be properly maintained, and replacement equipment is locally available.
