Goal
DC Shiba Inu Rescue (DC SIR), a registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3), rescues and adopts Shiba Inus and primitive breeds to our local community while providing continued education for our volunteers and adopters. Our science page Pawsitively Primal provides a detailed review of our wellness program's evidence-based approach. In addition to rescue and adoption, our mission is to create optimal health through our three core philosophies on Training, Nutrition, and Environment to enhance our relationship with our canine companions.
Nutrition: DC SIR has been a 100% raw feeding rescue for over ten years, whether creating NRC balanced meals with ingredients from numerous local organic farms that work with and donate to us or feeding prepackaged frozen raw including the highest quality ingredients that go beyond nutrition. While this has been difficult to maintain, the long-term health rewards are worth the effort and cost!
Training: We only use reward-based training with this breed known for being 'difficult' to train. We are lucky to have worked with some of the best trainers and behaviorists that bring science to this unregulated field that damages so many dogs.
Environment: Implementing protocols to reduce internal, topical, and environmental toxins that damage the microbiome and mitochondria and replace our dead microbial environment with beneficial microbes from our natural environment.
Our vision for the DC SIR Wellness Center is to have a place for our fans to come and learn about our program while providing care to Shiba's in need.
We are also accepting materials for the build (wood, fencing, windows, etc.) to offset costs and labor from experts in various aspects of the build and creation of the DC SIR Wellness Center. If you can help with your expertise or materials, please send an email to Rescue@dcsir.org with DC SIR WELLNESS CENTER in all caps as the subject line. Thank you!

I saw the story of Aika and the way her tail curled reminds me a lot of my Shiba. He is shy as well. I would like to help out with her treatment of the heartworm.
