WE DESPERATELY NEED  FUNDS TO HELP PAY FOR DARLA'S SURGERY. She had surgery on 8/7/17 to remove both eyes.  After being seen by an eye specialist, the prognosis was that she would never regain her sight and they felt that she was in enough discomfort that removal of both eyes was the best outcome for her. She made it through surgery and is back home with her foster family.  She is still dealing with a heart murmur and some lumbar pain and is slowly gaining weight now that she is rid of hookworms.  Along with being blind, she is mostly deaf.

From Darla’s Foster Mom:

(8/16/17): Darla is doing well. Tuesday she gets to see the eye doctor to determine if the stitches come out and the cone comes off. In the mean time she is enjoying working on a bone.

(8/14/17):  Hi from Darla. Week 2 of the cone but she is tolerating it. She got to go for a ride in the car and while we were sitting for a few she got a break from it. Car rides, extra tasties in her food...my other babies are starting to not talk to me. Lol.

(8/12/17): "My cone sisters...Darla and Josey. Darla is healing well and is starting to want to venture around the house more. Her fur is coming in on her back end where the flea infestation was and I'm seeing some red, so we may have some brindle coming in. We have another week with the cone and then stitches come out and she can really start exploring.
PS. My other BT is in a cone because of a lump removal...its been an interesting couple of weeks in my house. Lol"

(8/10/17): Darla is such a sweetheart. She is stuck in her cone a lot while the eyes heal, but she got a cone break for a little bit to snore in my arms.

(8/8/17): Good morning from Darla Lotus. We had a rough night. Anesthesia wore off and about 3:00 she ate and got her pain meds. She finally fell asleep about 4:30. This morning she has been up, eaten, and gave me some kisses before napping again. She has also realized there is a cone on her neck and is not happy. She has swelling today, but it is down from last night (compresses helped). Prayers are helping for sure, and I am so thankful to this rescue for having a heart and taking this girl in. She is just a sweet beautiful soul!

(8/7/17): She is doing good. Has eaten more than once. The anesthesia has worn off by now so I've started the pain meds. One side was in much worse shape, bled more during surgery, and we are applying cold compresses as she will allow. I know now she is probably feeling things pretty good but hopefully within a couple of days everything will start feeling better for her. We are also fighting an ear infection too. She is definitely a fighter with everything that she has had to go through over the last month or so to heal whatever her past did to her. We keep her in whatever area of the house we are in and she seems content. We hope for her to be pain free after the healing so she will begin to bloom into the beautiful dog she is meant to be.

This poor baby was spotted on 6/28/17 finding refuge from the pouring rain in a culvert pipe on the side of a road.  She was in really rough shape.  Aside from not being able to see, she is extremely emaciated.  She refused to eat anything that night and would only take water from a syringe. The next morning, she was brought by a volunteer for BTRFL to a vet for an initial exam.  The GOOD news is that her blood work is all within normal range and she is heart worm negative.  She had also started eating some at that point. The BAD news is that she has a grade 4 heart murmur and has had chronic ear infections in both ears, along with the eye issues.  She also had a horrible case of hookworms and her skin was infected due to a severe flea allergy.
