CRIA Read-A-Thon

For the past four years, Costa Rica International Academy has partnered with the nonprofit organization Futuro Brillante and generously supported the Matapalo Elementary School by raising much needed funds for school supplies and textbooks for children from low-income families through the annual CRIA Read-A-Thon.

While this year presents new challenges resulting from the pandemic, CRIA's commitment to the Matapalo community remains the same: to promote equality in education for all local children.

As Costa Rican public schools plan to maintain virtual classes for the foreseeable future, many local students from low-income families are falling behind in their education due to lack of an Internet connection or not having access to a tablet or computer at home. We are seeing many students falling behind or even dropping out at an alarming rate.

Your generous donation will be used to help purchase tablets, supplies and supplement monthly Internet costs for the most vulnerable families in our community who are simply not able to provide the basic, necessary tools for their children to continue their education online. Futuro Brillante will manage the donation process with the school, and families will be selected based on need in coordination with the teachers and school principal.
